Testimonial for ACE Mural, Sir John Lawes School
“I was lucky enough to work with Sofia when she joined us to work a six-month placement at Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden between February and July 2023.
During this time, we worked together to design and produce a number of large-scale graphic displays and a large scale painted mural.
Her work has greatly enhanced the school and I can honestly say she has opened my eyes to the power and joy that comes from being involved in a truly collaborative art project, not to mention the fantastic end results achieved.
Together we used Adobe Photoshop to design and print several large displays for various faculties within the school. We later used collage techniques, then laser cutting of MDF and traditional painting techniques to create a three-colour mural, - our brief was to design a visually graphic embodiment of the school’s values, – achievement, care and excellence - known as the “Sir John Lawes ACE”
Collaboration is fundamental to Sofia’s way of working, and from the start she made improving and uplifting the school environment her goal and did it with an inspiring blend of reflectiveness and empathy for the students and staff, combined with her particular infectious level of energy, good humour, and unswervable optimism.
Sofia has many qualities which I feel mark her out as an exceptional art professional, but the most important strengths that would make her perfectly suited to the role at St George’s Hospital would be her ability to draw people together and focus on a shared goal, her quiet empathy for the needs of others and her talent and enthusiasm the power and the potential involved in uniting individuals and enabling them to work together to achieve a visual embodiment of their ideas.”
